Indigenous Education Projects


The Indigenous Education Projects Unit has been established to manage Indigenous education projects and develop partnerships that work collaboratively to progress the goals of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Policy and the Melbourne Declaration.
The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and the Commonwealth Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) entered into an agreement for the research and development of a national network of Learning Communities over a 4 year period.
The Indigenous Education Projects Unit strives to ensure that plans and strategies for Indigenous Education involve authentic Indigenous community involvement and promote the value of Indigenous knowledges and ways of working.
The Focus School Next Steps Initiative aims to assist around 100 specially selected Focus Schools implement strategies that are known to bring about improved school attendance, classroom engagement and academic achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
